My dog looks bored... should I worry?

A calm and relaxed dog is not always a bored dog, it’s often a dog who feels safe and balanced.

But how can you make sure?

Your dog is probably OK if:

  • They rest a lot during the day

  • They calmly observe their environment

  • They settle easily after walks

This is healthy downtime, not boredom.

Your dog may be under-stimulated if you notice:

  • Destructive behaviours (chewing, digging, stealing items)

  • Excessive barking or restlessness

  • Constant attention-seeking

  • Difficulty settling even after activity

Good news, it's not too late to act!

What to do (gently & effectively):

  • Prioritise quality walks over longer ones (sniffing = mental work)

  • Add enrichment, not overstimulation (snuffle mats, food puzzles)

  • Rotate toys instead of leaving everything available

  • Create predictable routines (security reduces “bored” behaviours)

  • Allow real rest (dogs need more sleep than we think)

Remember:

A fulfilled dog is not a constantly entertained dog.

Every one has their own needs, our furry friends too!
